1) Create any kind of background. I used Color Burst powdered pigments. I lightly sprayed my watercolor paper with water and then tapped in some color pigment. I sprayed some more water on the powders and watched them spread.
2) Once that was dry, I outlined all the colors on the page with my black Bic Intensity pen. Any black pen will do but try to pick one that doesn't reactivate with water or paint.
3) Have a good look by turning your page in all directions for the subject that jumps out of it. Once you found it, then paint it in. I used acrylic paint in my case. I was able to see the broad nose and it reminded me of a cow so once that was painted in the rest came by itself.
